Review by Greg Neyman. He starts out with an explanation of what carbon dating is, which proves to be adequate for this discussion. The only notable exception is that he says carbon dating is only good for objects less than 40, years old. This date has been changed to about 62, years. As technologies advance, so does our ability to detect the amount of C in a sample.

Carbon dating accuracy called into question after major flaw discovery
Shroud of Turin - What is it? The Shroud of Turin is a linen cloth believed by some to have covered the buried body of Jesus Christ. Accounts of Jesus' followers wrapping his body with a linen cloth are mentioned in all four gospels Matthew , Mark , Luke , John The shroud, which has a known history dating back to , is about feet long by four feet wide. It is called the Shroud of Turin because it permanently resides in the city of Turin, Italy, though on occasion it is exhibited elsewhere. The shroud bears markings that appear to be front and back impressions of a crucified man. Apparently, the cloth was folded over itself, one half above the man, the other half below.
Relics associated with Jesus
Lately I have heard devout Christians saying that carbon dating is flawed in that the great flood somehow negates the scientific legitimacy of the process. Could someone please explain this argument to me? And incidentally, just because you're a Christian, it doesn't mean you're a young earth creationist. I myself, a Christian, am a Old Earth creationist I believe the universe is billions of years old, etc.
I had the same thought about the circular reasoning involved in estimating the age of the earth, and even told my teacher that it sounded absurd. She, being a faithful Christian, told me to write what the textbooks stated for the sake of the exam without arguing. My doubt now is this: The age of fossils is estimated based on Carbon Dating—measuring how much Carbon is present, and using the halflife principle.
