Jim Corrigan awoke Tuesday morning as the top assistant coach of a proud and successful basketball program enduring a historically dreadful season. By lunchtime, he was the head coach at Old Dominion, with practices, games and the task of focusing and unifying the team in the final weeks. Corrigan spoke by phone Wednesday night from Philadelphia, where the Monarchs will face Drexel on Thursday, in the aftermath of the bizarre episode in which head coach Blaine Taylor was abruptly fired after 12 years on the job. He was told that he would be the interim head coach for the remaining eight games.

Old Dominion's Office of Research held its second "speed networking" event Aug. The one "rule" for the session, whose purpose was to facilitate the exploration of collaborative research, was that each conversation had to occur within a 7-minute time frame. Karen Eck, ODU director of research development, had read about another university's speed networking event and decided to give it a try at ODU. The first one, held in April, featured faculty members from the College of Health Sciences. Faculty members from the other five colleges with an interest in exploring research collaborations with their COHS colleagues were invited to attend.

In addition, the profile helps bottlers reduce their total cost of operations by delivering energy saving, no-steam application, which improves capping efficiency and provides consistent, consumer-friendly removal torques. For material cost reduction, some companies are increasing the number of bottle thread-starts to decrease the bottle finish height and weight. This can cause there to be little to no separation between the opening angle required to begin venting and the angle at which closure-release occurs, heightening the risk of premature closure release. Premature closure release can also occur with mishandled product that can ferment if it is unrefrigerated or stored improperly after opening, creating closure blow-off risk from the build-up of internal pressures. This closure is ideal for aseptically-filled beverages.
